BRIEF ABOUT MELANINSANTA

MelaninSanta is a Swedish company that sells handmade Santas in three different melanin shades to contribute to a more inclusive Christmas. Since 2022, MelaninSanta also sells luxury fairtrade chocolate. MelaninSanta is owned and operated by Catharine Otabbong. 

MELANINSANTAS VISION

Catharine Otabbong started MelaninSanta with the dream that everyone who celebrates Christmas in Sweden should feel included in the Christmas celebration.

ABOUT MELANINSANTAS HAND MADE SANTAS

Our santas are created from a self-made mold and it is fully cast in plaster. Then they are painted and varnished by hand.

• The santas are 15 cm high, 12 cm wide and weigh 585 grams.
• They are available in three shades of melanin; dark brown, brown and light brown.
• You can choose different coat colors; red, gray, green, snow white or pink. Options can be made in black glitter for shoes and gloves.
• The pink santa in honor of the Swedish Breast Cancer Foundation comes with gold glitter.

HISTORY OF MELANINSANTAS

In 2019, Catharine Otabbong decided to produce her own Santa after years of looking for a Santa who could be her own uncle. With roots in Uganda, she did not feel that any of the existing Christmas decorations represented her or her family. Catharine developed her own mold and cast her first Santa, which she hand-painted.

In 2020, Catharine started selling the elves via Instagram as a hobby project.

In 2021, Catharine Otabbong started her own business; MelaninSanta. She also successfully started exhibiting at Christmas markets.

In 2022, MelaninSanta started selling via its own web shop and also sells luxury fairtrade chocolate from Divine Chocolate.
